Hi everyone,

Can anyone tell me how a foal "knows" to grow a thicker coat, when it is born during winter? I'm guessing that daylight has something to do with it - perhaps the mare undergoes some sort of hormonal changes due to little sunlight, which causes the foal to grow more hair.

But what is the real reason, and where can I learn more?

Best wishes

Jules
