Thank you Dr Deb, much clearer explanation than my vet gave, and I am building up the horse's walking exercise (an hour today and he's turned out every day) but am concerned about whether I may be doing any damage to the torn collateral ligament at that fetlock that the vet picked up on the xray. I guess nothing to do with the kick, just worrying having the same leg with problems. Have read differing accounts on how long torn collateral ligament takes to realign and repair, and indeed what may have caused it, would greatly appreciate your thoughts on this. (The horse is a lusitano). And Happy Healthy New Year to you too.
Dr Deb, I think maybe my post and Barbara's have become a bit mixed up regarding symptoms and causes. I was initially interested in your comments on condroitin even though my vet had prescribed it in a supplement also containing glucosamine, but this was for torn collateral ligament, revealed in the xray. I appreciate your information on the original kick and subsequent swelling, but the horse was subsequently diagnosed with the torn collateral ligament, and it's the healing process of this that concerns me. So wondered if you could comment on this please. I should have posted a separate thread in the first place, sorry!
