Dear Forum participants: We have just received notice from the company on whose server the Forum resides that they are retiring from business. They have given us a definite end-date of January 1, 2023, after which the Forum in this exact form will be no more.
We will plan on migrating the Forum to a different company sometime in the next two months. However, just in case everything does not go well, if you have favorite threads and want to save those, plan on dubbing them out. This can entail a lot of work and time, but two months is pretty good lead-time and you should be able to save all you want.
And, hopefully, we will be successful in migrating Forum content to somewhere else.
We'll keep you notified of our plans and progress with regard to this.
Meanwhile, again, if you have not yet received your "invitation from Dr. Deb" Emailing with instructions on how to order the new 3-volume "Horse Conformation: Principles of Form & Function", please email us at office@equinestudies.org and we'll reply with that very promptly. The pre-publication sale ends on Nov. 20th. And thanks again to all of those who have already placed an order.
Cheers -- Dr. Deb

If text is the main want wayback machine has most things archived. Worth checking there before worrying too much.

Adam, great to hear from you again, popping up out of nowhere! I hope you & Tindur have been getting along great.
The 'Wayback Machine' is comforting to be reminded about -- I hope it lasts, because there's unfortunately no good news about our ability to migrate.
The guy who owns the software we use for the Forum ('MyWowBB') and who runs the server farm where the Forum is maintained, is retiring due to ill health. He communicated with us at first, but as you probably know there are a number of tweaks that have to be performed for a migration to happen. After our first round of communications he has totally stopped communicating, whether by us pulling a service tag, or by Email, or by telephone; he simply does not respond at all and apparently has left no one in charge of the shop who would or could respond. This may be -- who knows? -- because the poor schlep has had a heart attack or some other reason that he's in the hospital and totally incommunicado. But whatever the reason, because he's not communicating we have not been able to get the codes and other materials necessary to make the migration, and we do not think we can count on getting them before the deadline of Jan. 1st.
So, I am emphatically suggesting that if you or anybody has favorite Forum threads, particularly with respect to photos (which Adam implies may not be preserved by the WayBack machine), that you dub them out now before it is too late. After Jan. 1st they will be gone forever.
On the positive side, of course I will be establishing a new Forum, where we will start from scratch with answering any horsemanship-related question that anybody from anywhere wants to ask. I don't know just yet what format the new Forum will have, but hopefully not too different from this software which I have liked very much.
I'll post more news as I have it -- Dr. Deb

Well, everybody -- here's the good news: it looks like we WILL be able to accomplish the migration after all. "Migration" means that the Forum content and software will no longer be resident on server bank "A" but instead will be found on server bank "B".
THEREFORE -- the address that you have stored in your browser will only work as long as we are still on server "A".
At the moment we accomplish the migration, the old address or "pointer" will no longer work.
If all goes well, the migration will occur within the next week. I will have no means of contacting everybody after we leave server "A", so I am warning you now that, if you try to get into the Forum by using the address you have stored in your browser, and/or by using "esiforum.mywowbb.com" and it no longer works, THEN you will have to find the new Forum address by doing the following:
(1) Go to our main website: http://www.equinestudies.org
(2) At the home page, click on the "Forum" button
(3) This takes you to the page with forum user rules. There is a picture of Painty Horse speaking into my ear at the top of that page. Scroll down to the bottom and see the button that says "Go to Forum"
(4) This will take you to the new Forum address, which should be saved into your browser for convenience and/or you should write down the address and keep it in your physical logbook or rolodex.
We are OVERJOYED to find that migration is possible, as this will preserve the complete contents of the Forum going back yea these many years. We hope everyone will follow over to the new location & look forward to many more years of productive and enlightening dialogue.
Thanks to everyone for your patience around this! -- Dr. Deb

This is a test post to see whether our software is working properly after migration....let's sure hope it is!!
Thanks for everyone's patience. If anyone is having trouble getting functions to work, i.e. your posts don't go up, trouble signing in, or whatnot, please Email office@equinestudies.org. That will be very helpful to us and we'll do our best to get whatever problems fixed. Cheers -- Dr. Deb

Judy, and everybody: Yes for sure, dance like Snoopy....it is an enormous relief that we've got the Forum working on a different server.
It will be helpful if others would be kind enough to make brief replies to this post -- we need people to try posting just to double-check that there are no glitches.
And for sure -- also to carry on with Forum discussions!!! -- Dr. Deb
