I am looking for a kind of exercise routine to strengthen core muscles to aid in rider balance and performance. I know there are some Dr Deb has mentioned but am unable to find them.

Please can you help me find some.

Many thanks Julie

There is a good book written by a physio called 'Riding from the Inside Out' that has exercises designed for riders with a focus on core strength.  Many are somewhat similar to the pilates exercises I have learned from my physio.  It was first published in 2003 in Australia and later in Great Britain.  I have had my copy for a couple of years so am unsure of availability.  If you could track down a copy I am sure it would be helpful.
Best wishes,
Jane.

Hi Julie,

I have a copy of that book, forgot all about it, will see if I can find it and get it to you! I bought it years ago and put it in to the 'too hard basket' might be time to get it out again!!!

Hi all, since reading the book suggested to me Riding from the inside out, I am in a better position to realize I need to have stable body balance best acheived by strong core muscles to correct misuse of other muscles. I am ready now Dr Deb to try to find those exercises that you talked about once before here in New Zealand. The ones to strengthen the iliopsoas muscles. I have looked on the internet but havent come up with anything much.  I would like to find some to use on the swiss ball (or fitball). Any ideas would be much appreciated. Many thanks

I found the above site and thought it had excellent descriptions of various helpful exercises for riders and why to do them. There is emphasis on core strength, stability and body awareness.

The author says she's had spinal fusion and these exercises helped her ride and jump again.
